Indonesia's nickel imports rose 72% in 20192020-02-11 10:18:21
On January 1st, 2020, Indonesia renewed its iron ore export ban.
Chinese nickel imports rose 60% year-on-year to 4.32m tonnes in December 2019, with imports from Indonesia rising 82% to 2.47m tonnes. For all of 2019, China's nickel imports rose 30% year-on-year to 56.13m tonnes, with imports from Indonesia surging 72% to 23.9m tonnes, accounting for almost 43% of total nickel imports. Chinese imports of nickel from Indonesia rose by nearly three-quarters in 2019, largely because nickel traders increased purchases ahead of Indonesia's export ban earlier this year, according to customs data.
